This presentation will share some best practices and lessons learned to manage strategic investments in uncertain times.  Topics will include the importance of alignment between strategy and investment profile, building agility to respond to market conditions and instilling confidence in initiative execution to realize value.

About the Presenter

Patrick K. Tam leads Global Business Operations for Cisco Technical Services.  As operations leader for the SVP and Operations Board, Patrick oversees operational planning (budget, staff, communications), leads the strategic investment portfolio, and drives organization alignment and change management.  An 11 year Cisco veteran, Patrick has demonstrated leadership and innovation in Services, Manufacturing, and Internet Business Solutions Group (IBSG).    Within Services, Patrick founded the industry-leading Services Portfolio Management Office and oversaw a $240M of strategic investment spend, launched portfolio management for the corporate Emerging Solutions Council, and supported Services Council Operations. The Center for Business Practices recognized this work and awarded Patrick’s team as a Top 5 PMO in the Industry in 2009.  Patrick also led Services-wide Planning, Governance and Web 2.0 Innovation/Strategy and was awarded the Web 2.0 Innovation Award by John Chambers, Cisco’s CEO.
